Marlfox is the first Redwall book I ever read. It is a nod in my opinion to the trappings and traps of a monarchy where rulers can be unseated by a silent drop in the glass.
Queen Silth is a cruel, insane queen whose time is nearly run. Her children are cruel as well and seek to thieve the precious Redwall tapestry from the abbey. However, an abbey mouse is killed in the raid and the heat is on as Dannflor, Songbreeze and Dippler seek to find and destroy the pale-eyed magic foxes.
A sweeping narrative in a fine style reminiscient of TH White and Tolkien, but a style that is nonetheless all Brian Jacque
The eddy and flow of the action and calm make for a fantastic story.

One almost wonders what magic it is that
Jacque weaves into his words as he writes these stories....
