This, I announce with trembling pleasure, is a wonderfully crafted adventure. Jacques has outdone himself. Never shall I forget the selfless sacrifice of the Long Patrol: Colonel Clary, Brigandier Thyme and Hon Rosie: We salute you! (And Mellus too!)
I stood at the west wall, scarce believing my eyes.
Towards the enemy camp they walked, brave, straight and true,
The members of the Long Patrol, with no fear in their eyes.
Forth the Warriors, fearless and pure
Forth the Warriors, ready to die for freedom sweet,
For the young ones whom the Vermin would slay,
Forth you walked, not missing a beat
Ready to die on that fateful day.
Though seasons go by, and young grows old,
Your brave charge is not forgotten,
Forth for the Long Patrol,
Fear not the Vermin rotton-
Make them pay for what they have taken, make them pay dear,
And wherever you go, Warrior, remember-
That though they died, with not a single tear
from the cold Vermin, they saved our lives- and we remember.
